for Windows SharePoint Services 3 and MOSS 2007

We openly publish the modifications we make to the What's New Web Part content aggregator codebase so our customers know what we changed, when we changed it and why we made the change. Each note is tagged with one of the following categories: Bug Fix, Documentation, Feature, Performance, Refactoring, Release and Update.

What's New Web Part 2009 Release Notes

2009 - 4th Quarter

2009.4.06 - 11/27/2009
  • Bug Fix:  Corrected a results caching issue that could allow a user to see List items in the results for which they do not have the appropriate view right.
  • Update:  Modified the Cache Results Duration time limit from Minutes to Seconds. Long cache limits allowed a user to view a List item for the duration of the cache time limit even though the user may no longer have at least the view right on the item.
  • Documentation: User Guide - Updated Cache Results Duration details to reflect new cache algorithm change from minutes to seconds.
2009.4.05 - 11/25/2009
  • Feature:  Web part now supports language localization. Default and en-US language resource files included with downloads.
  • Refactoring:  String management refactored to improve performance and reduce assembly memory footprint.
  • Update:  Moved casually used HTML markup out of the assembly and into resource files to reduce assembly footprint.
  • Update:  Updated Url encoding to use the encoding methods in the SharePoint SPEncode class rather than standard methods.
  • Documentation: Install Guide - Added language resource deployment options and instructions.
  • Bug Fix:  Corrected an issue that prevented Document, Picture, and Form names to not display when web part was running under a German locale.
  • Bug Fix:  Corrected an issue that prevented the correct icon and associated opening application to display in the context menu when the column Title (linked to item with edit menu) had been chosen for display when the web part was running under a German locale.
  • Bug Fix:  Corrected a sort problem when the Group By columns Created or Modified were chosen for grouping.
2009.4.04 - 11/19/2009
  • Bug Fix:  Corrected an issue that caused an empty value to be displayed in the Title column of the Content Type Contacts. The web part was only looking for a value in the internal field FullName and ignoring all others. The web part will now use the entered value in Full Name if found, otherwise it will construct a title from the Last Name and First Name columns.
  • Feature:  The columns Created and Modified are now available as Group By columns in the ToolPart Paging, Sorting, & Grouping.
2009.4.03 - 11/03/2009
  • Bug Fix:  Corrected an issue that caused the licensing mechanism to throw a (401) Unauthorized error when checking for a valid license.
2009.4.02 - 11/02/2009
  • Documentation:  User Guide - References to the _wpresources directory have been updated to the LAYOUTS directory in the 12 hive.
  • Documentation:  Install Guide - References to the _wpresources directory have been updated to the LAYOUTS directory in the 12 hive.
2009.4.02 - 10/29/2009
  • Update:  The bWareTech.License.xml license document has been re-located from the _wpresources web part resource directory to the LAYOUTS folder in the 12 hive.
  • Bug Fix:  Corrected a Url issue that would display the SharePoint error page with the message "The page you selected contains a list that does not exist.  It may have been deleted by another user." when a List item link was clicked. This message was specific to a List item that was currently in a multi-step workflow process.
2009.4.01 - 10/01/2009
  • Update:  Corrected Checked In Comment column heading to Check In Comment to conform to standard SharePoint naming conventions.
  • Update:  Corrected Checked In Comment column references in ToolPart options to Check In Comment to conform to standard SharePoint naming conventions.
  • Update:  Improved formatting of the Column File Size to conform to standard SharePoint formatting.
  • Update:  Replaced an error message with a friendly user message when a connected List filter provider does not expose the expected field schema. This was not intended to be an error condition, but should be displayed for user feedback on an invalid List filter connection.
  • Bug Fix:  Items retrieved with an invalid Content Type signature will no longer throw an error. These items are now ignored. Note: This is not a common condition and is not native to a typical installation of WSS 3.0 or MOSS 2007.

2009 - 3rd Quarter

2009.3.06 - 09/10/2009
  • Update:  Customer request to change the Css class used when the option Show Column Name for Groups has been enabled. Column names are no longer black in color, improving the readability of the entire Group By line.
  • Refactoring:  Minor performance improvement when the Grid Column Title (linked to item with edit menu) has been chosen for display.
  • Bug Fix:  Improved support for "Extended Columns" when an extended column datatype has been altered from its default. Example: If a Task list created from the default SharePoint Task list template has its Status field altered from the default datatype of Choice to Lookup the web part would throw an error if/when a List item from the altered List met the search criteria. The List item will now display normally, but the field value for the altered Status column will now be ignored since it no longer meets the datatype criteria.
2009.3.05 - 08/28/2009
  • Documentation:  What's New User Guide: Added topic in the Administrator Notes section on un-authenticated or Anonymous user behavior.
2009.3.05 - 08/27/2009
  • Bug Fix:  Column Title (linked to item with edit menu) context menu failed to display alternate Custom Send To Destination properly on those Content Types that support this Advanced Settings option.
  • Bug Fix:  Column Title (linked to item with edit menu) context menu enabled the wrong menu options when the default Read access/Edit access settings had been altered under Advanced Settings.
  • Bug Fix: Web part threw an unexpected error and displayed the message "The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not been authenticated." when an anonymous user failed to have the right to a List item when the Read access/Edit access settings had been altered under Advanced Settings. Please note that the web part will no longer throw an error, but will still display the same message to the anonymous user if/when a single item in the query results does not allow anonymous read access.
2009.3.04 - 08/25/2009
  • Documentation:  What's New User Guide: Updates to several Content Types...added Notes: section for improved explanations.
2009.3.04 - 08/21/2009
  • Update:  New DEMONSTRATION MODE allows full web part functionality with rendered demo messages.
  • Update:  Style & Miscellaneous ToolPart now displays when a trial license has expired as well as when it will expire. Web part now returns to DEMONSTRATION MODE after trial license expiration.
  • Bug Fix:  Column Title (linked to item with edit menu) failed to display the proper icon in the Context Menu for Wiki Pages.
  • Bug Fix:  Column Title (linked to item with edit menu) Context Menu failed to display properly after a PostBack event when multiple instances of the web part are on the same web part page. Typically this occurred after the GridView was Sorted or Paged.

  • Feature:  You may now sort groups in Ascending or Descending order.

  • Feature: 27 new column options now available in the Grid Columns ToolPart. These new "extended" columns are typical columns commonly used in many default SharePoint List definitions. If an extended Column is chosen for display for a Content Type in which the Column does not apply, the Column is displayed with an empty value.
  • Feature: Support for non-standard Content Types when connected to a List Filter Provider.
  • Feature: ToolPart option now available to Enable/Disable row count values on group headers when a Group By column has been selected.
  • Bug Fix: Web part exposed itself as able to connect to multiple Providers, though it would ignore all but 1. Web part now only allows for a single Provider connection.
